Technology Replacement Plan
Belmont Abbey College has a cyclic Technology Replacement Plan to ensure that all technology on campus is kept up-to-date. All computers and networked printers on campus have been placed on a replacement cycle. The goal is a 4 year replacement on computers and printers. However, this is subject to the budget restrictions. Information Technology maintains a site license for Microsoft applications and other site or bulk licensing agreements for other critical applications and systems.
ALL COMPUTER EQUIPMENT IS PURCHASED THROUGH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND UNDER THE IT BUDGET. ALL COMPUTER SOFTWARE AND TECHNOLGY SERVICES ALSO GO THROUGH THE IT DEPARTMENT FOR APPROVAL AND PURCHASE.
The goals of the technology replacement plan are to:
- Assure that appropriate computing resources are available in shared and departmental computing facilities, classrooms, and college offices to support the mission of the institution.
- Assure that each faculty and staff member who uses computing resources in his or her position has a computer of sufficient capability to fulfill his/her responsibilities.
- Promote uniformity of technology levels within an area.
- Ease resource and financial planning by reducing the effort involved in departmental budgeting and planning for replacement computers.
- Provide for the cost effective and timely purchasing and installation of new equipment while decreasing the deployment time for new equipment
The Replacement Process
- The majority of these workstations and printers will be installed over the summer.
- Computers, telephones and software are provided for every new approved position. Replacements will inherit the equipment from the prior employee.
- IT will remove replaced workstations for reassignment as determined. Any personally owned equipment connected to a BAC computer should be clearly marked as such.
